Introduction
Ahyong (2001) recognised a single genus in the family. Odontodactylids include the largest of the `smashers' and occupy a range of habitats from coral reefs to soft, level substrates.
Diagnosis
Eye subglobular; cornea with six rows of rectangular ommatidia in the midband. Protopod of antenna with flattened, articulated plate dorsally. Third and fourth maxillipeds with propodi ovate, not ribbed or beaded ventrally; body subcylindrical, articulation compact. Raptorial claw with ischiomeral articulation subterminal; ischium with ventrally directed, triangular lobe; dactylus with small, short teeth on inner margin, strongly inflated basally; propodus lacking proximal movable spine or pectinations on opposable margin. Sixth abdominal somite articulating with telson. Telson with distinct median carina, and submedian denticles in adults; submedian teeth with movable apices. Uropodal protopod with two primary spines; articulation of exopod segments terminal; distal spines on outer margin of uropodal exopod straight or slightly curved, not strongly recurved anteriorly.
