Family PARABATHYNELLIDAE Noodt, 1965

Introduction

Four of 32 genera occurring throughout the world are found in Australia. Schminke (1982) diagnosed the family. At least 90 species are known in all (Coineau 1996).

 

Diagnosis

Pleon as wide as thorax. Antennae directed posteriorly, without exopod. Labrum with border armed with teeth or fine setae. Mandible with short 1-articled palp, with 1 seta, and with row of spines on gnathobase. Maxilla 1, article 2 with 2 or 3 simple setae on outer distal margin. Thoracopods 1-7 with 1-articled exopod with setae on lower margin; or with multiarticulate exopod and setae on both margins. Pleopod 1 absent or uniramous, 1-articled. Pleotelson without pair of dorsal setae. Uropodal peduncle long.
