Introduction

Species of the family Paracalanidae are generally small, varying from 0.5 to 1.5 mm. Paracalanids are entirely marine, and can be found in temperate and tropical coastal and open oceanic waters, usually occurring in near-surface waters. There are six recognised genera, with over 70 species. Additionally, there is one genus inquirendum. See Boxshall & Halsey (2004: 151) for more details as well as a key to the genera.
