Family PSAMMASPIDIDAE Schminke, 1974
Introduction
The Psammaspididae are represented by two genera, each with only one species—one in New South Wales and one in Tasmania.
Diagnosis
Rostrum bilobed. Thoracomeres of similar lengths to pleonites; pleonite 6 with row of long spines along posterior margin. Eyes absent. Antenna 2 with scaphocerite. Mandible with palp. Maxilla 1 without palp. Thoracopod 1 7-articled, not forming a maxilliped, with tubular exopod. Thoracopods 1–7 with exopod; thoracopod 8 without exopod. Pleopod 1 without endopod, with multiarticulate exopod; pleopods 2–5 reduced; except in male where pleopods 1–2 interact as a petasma. Uropods with 2-articled rami. Telson rounded, not forming tailfan with uropods. Seminal receptacle absent in female.
