Introduction

[After Nielsen & Edwards in Nielsen et al. (1996: 118)].
The known Australian Scythrididae were mostly described by Meyrick (1897a) in the genus Scythris Hübner. The genus Eretmocera Zeller was placed in the Heliodinidae and reviewed by Meyrick (1914d) in Genera Insectorum and Australian species were reviewed by Turner (1941b). The family in northern Europe was revised by Bengtsson (1984) and in North America by Landry (1991). Common (1990) provided a useful outline of the Australian species.

Nielsen in Nielsen et al. (1996) group the following species as unplaced to genus within Scythrididae:

Borkhausenia albipectinata Turner, 1933.

Batrachedra hypoxutha Meyrick, 1897.

Machaeretis orthosema Turner, 1940.
