Introduction

Species in the family Sphyriidae are fish parasites. It is known that postmetamorphic females are mesoparasitic, yet little information has been gained regarding male biology and behaviour. The family comprises nine genera, and 33 species.
See Boxshall & Halsey (2004: 817) for more details as well as a key to the genera.
