Introduction
This is one of the largest of Coleoptera families, and is divided into 18 subfamilies: the Aleocharinae, Euaesthetinae, Glypholomatinae, Megalopsidiinae, Omaliinae, Osoriinae, Oxytelinae, Paederinae, Phloeocharinae, Piestinae, Pselaphinae, Scaphidiinae, Scydmaeninae, Staphylininae, Steninae, Tachyporinae and Trichophyinae.
