Species Saccolaimus saccolaimus (Temminck, 1838)

Bare-rumped Sheathtail-bat, Naked-rumped Sheathtail-bat

Introduction

This species is currently (2009) of conservation concern, however, Milne et al. (2009) found many misidentifications among museum specimens and recommend "… genetic testing of all museum specimens of Australian Saccolaimus to clarify species’ distributions and provide data for reassessing the conservation status for both S. saccolaimus and S. flaviventris.
