Flora of Australia Volume 8—Lecythidales to Batales

Volume 8 contains 19 families of plants, many of which are herbaceous. The largest is the cabbage family, Brassicaceae, with 160 species, containing many familiar weeds (such as Wild Turnip, Wild Radish, etc) of cultivated and waste ground, but also many native species and genera such as Lepidium. Other large families included are Droseraceae (sundews), Cucurbitaceae (melons), Capparaceae, Frankeniaceae and Flacourtiaceae. The volume also includes the tropical Nepenthaceae (Pitcher Plants), the Violaceae, and the introduced willows (Salicaceae).

This volume covers 19 families, 106 genera and 419 species.

28 new taxa are described, including 2 new genera, Nothoalsomitra Telford (Cucurbitaceae) and Irenepharsus Hewson (Brassicaceae), as well as many new combinations and lectotypifications.

This volume is dedicated to Sir Rutherford Robinson, A.C., C.M.G., F.A.A., F.R.S.

Inaugural Chairman of the Editorial Committee, who guided the Flora of Australia project from a proposal to a reality.
