Cross-cutting issue 7: Ecosystem approach

The ecosystem approach is widely implemented in Australia and underpins the EPBC Act. The ecosystem approach is the foundation for existing natural resource management programmes, and for wetland and multiple use native forest management. This approach also supports conservation incentive measures and programmes, and fisheries management arrangements. Internationally, Australia strongly supports work on the ecosystem approach within the CBD and promotes its use in the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), and elsewhere.
