About the draft report

A draft report titled 'Review of the impacts of introduced aquarium fish species that have established wild populations in Australia' has been prepared for the Australian Government Department of the Environment and Water Resources.

The report reviews the current status and potential ecological threats posed by the freshwater ornamental fish species that have already established breeding populations in Australian waters. The review identifies key gaps in knowledge so that the Australian Government and aquarium trade industry can develop a joint approach to managing the environmental consequences of the introduced species.

Comments on the draft report are currently being sought from interested parties. The Department is particularly interested in receiving submissions that provide additional scientifically robust data or information which will supplement the current report.
