Australia is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world, with many species that are found nowhere else on the planet. This biological diversity (biodiversity) is largely as a result of the diversity in Australia's climate. Consequently, any changes to Australia's climate resulting from human-induced climate change will affect Australia's biodiversity in a substantial way over the coming century.
While many of the changes are already occurring, there are actions we can take to reduce the negative impacts on biodiversity from human induced climate change.
Australia's federal and state governments have developed a National biodiversity and climate change action plan to address this issue for more information). This brochure explains how Australia could be affected by climate change and what we might do to help our species and ecosystems adapt to the impacts of climate change.
