Chief refuge value
Potential mountain refuge for plants and animals in the north of the mulga lands.
General description
Rugged residual sandstone tablelands and hills in the Grey and Gowan Ranges to the north and west of Adavale1. Systematic investigations are wanting, but there is limited evidence that the area may warrant classification as a refuge.
ANZECC-listed species
The plants Xerothamnella parvifolia, Rhaphidospora bonneyana and Melaleuca kunzeoides (all V) occur in the Grey and Gowan Ranges2, 3.
Regional endemics
None identified.
Relict species
The rare plants Eremophila linsmithii, Acacia spania, Euphorbia sarcostemmoides, and Homocalyx polyandrus are recorded in the Ranges2, 3.
Other significant species
The yellow-footed rock-wallaby Petrogale xanthopus occurs on rugged sandstone ridges throughout the Ranges1.
Key threats
Land degradation through stock and feral animals, especially goats.
Land tenure
Pastoral leases.
