Amongst other roles, the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme (ABBBS) oversees the recruitment and training of bird and bat banders in Australia. This is done through the issue of Authorities which are recognised by the State and Territory nature conservation agencies. In broad terms, ABBBS Banding Authorities authorise the holder to use ABBBS bands and may be regarded as 'skills tickets', confirming that the Authority holder has a specified level of skills in capture, handling, and banding birds or bats. Please note that these conditions and requirements should be regarded as a guide only.
If you wish to become a bird or a bat bander, there are a number of steps that need to be followed before the ABBBS can issue you with an authority.
