Nominations to list an ecological community as critically endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999
Two nominations were received seeking the listing of the 'Forest Red Gum Grassy Woodland of Gippsland, Victoria' and the 'Central Gippsland Plains Grassland of the South East Coastal Plain Bioregion' as critically endangered ecological communities under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
These nominations were prepared and submitted by an independent third party whose identity is confidential. Confidential parts of this nomination, such as the names of individuals who provided unpublished information and sensitive location information, have been blacked out.
The views expressed within the nomination do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Australian Government or the Threatened Species Scientific Committee (the Committee). The Australian Government and the Committee do not accept responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of the contents of the nomination.
The Committee welcomes the views of experts, stakeholders and the general public on these Nominations and the technical workshop report to further inform its nomination assessment process. To assist in this matter, the Committee has identified a series of specific questions on which it seeks particular guidance. These are at the end of the technical workshop report.
Information in this nomination, the subsequent workshop report, as well as other information received by the Department, will be used by the Committee to advise the Minister for the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts whether the species should be listed as threatened under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act 1999.
The public comment period closes on 6 May 2008.
