About this document
The Trout Cod Maccullochella macquariensis is a moderately large freshwater percicthyid fish endemic to the Murray-Darling River system in south-eastern Australia. It has suffered a catastrophic decline in range and abundance, to the point where just one natural population remains in the wild. The Trout Cod is Listed as Endangered under the Australian Government Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The first national Recovery Plan for the Trout Cod was prepared in 1994 (Douglas et al. 1994), and revised in 1998 (Brown et al. 1998). This version builds on these earlier plans, and relies heavily on the information and ideas contained in those plans. This plan details the species' distribution and biology, conservation status, threats, and recovery objectives and actions necessary to ensure the long-term survival of the Trout Cod.
