Summary
Acacia sciophanes was declared as Rare Flora in 1995 under the Western Australian Wildlife Conservation Act 1950 and currently meets ranking criteria for Critically Endangered (CR) under IUCN (2001) Red List criterion B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v), due to its area of occupancy being less than 10 km2, severe fragmentation and a continuing decline in the number of mature individuals.
Acacia sciophanes is listed as Endangered (EN) under the Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The main threats are road, rail and firebreak maintenance, grazing, gravel extraction, weeds, inappropriate fire regimes and poor recruitment.
This interim recovery plan, which results from a review of, and replaces, interim recovery plan No.77 Acacia sciophanes (Evans et al. 2000), will operate from April 2008 to March 2013 but will remain in force until withdrawn or replaced. It is intended that, if the taxon is still ranked CR, this interim recovery plan will be reviewed after five years and the need for further recovery actions assessed.
