This species is listed as 'Endangered' under the Queensland Nature Conservation Act 1992 (NCA). In the Northern Territory, the bare-rumped sheathtail bat (subspecies not identified) is listed as 'Data Deficient' under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 2000.
