Production of a Local Biodiversity Action Plan or Biodiversity Conservation Strategy

Aim: Future actions aimed at conserving biodiversity need to be identified, prioritised and included in some form of strategic direction for councils to progress. One of the most effective ways of doing this involves the production of a Biodiversity Conservation Strategy or Local Biodiversity Action Plan. The purpose of this benchmark then is to outline immediate actions to be commenced, and to plan for the longer term changes to council activities and responsibilities.

Actions to Assist in Benchmark Attainment

Generate a strategic document outlining actions.
Identify within the Local Biodiversity Action Plan:
- Action/s
- Timeframes
- Indicators
- Responsible Officers
Review Case Studies to determine successful approaches taken by other councils.
