To protect Australia against exotic pests and diseases which could threaten our unique environment, agriculture and the tourism industry.
To protect the Australian community against potentially dangerous animals. The safety of the owner, the public and even other animals has to be considered. There is no antivenine available in Australia for many venomous exotic species.
To protect endangered species from uncontrolled trade which can lead to population decline and extinction. Australia helps to conserve the world's wildlife by regulating the import and export of animals protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
