EPBC Act list
Last updated 11 January 2002
This list identifies species of native animals that are recognised as native household pets for the purposes of live export. It includes those species of native birds previously included on Schedule 7 of the former Wildlife Protection (Regulation of Exports and Imports) Act 1982.
Export of these animals may be permitted if the export is not primarily for commercial purposes. The exporter must have owned and kept the animal as a household pet and be leaving Australia with the intention of taking up permanent residence in another country. This provision only applies to persons who have been ordinarily resident in Australia prior to departure.
A limit of not more than three animals applies to all species except budgerigars and cockatiels.
