The Australian Customs Service (Customs) has introduced new procedures for exports.
From 6 October 2004 all goods intended to be exported from Australia that currently require an export permit must be declared to Australian Customs Service (Customs) on an export declaration (currently called an export entry).
Summary of Changes
The lodgement of documentary export declarations will introduce a variety of changes.
- Before clients can lodge an export declaration with Customs they must be registered in the Integrated Cargo System (ICS)
- Documentary export declarations may only be lodged in person (by the exporter or their agent) at Customs counters or at authorised Australia Post offices
- When lodging documentary export declarations an evidence of identity check (EOI) must take place (a processing charge of $27.50 will be incurred for the completion of this check at authorised Australia Post offices).
- All exporters that have had their ABN recorded on an export entry at least twice in the period July 2002 through to May 2004 will already be registered with Customs.
- Clients who do not have an ABN, do not utilise a service provider for lodging export documents, and are not registered in the ICS can apply for a unique Customs Client Identifier number (CCID) that must be used for all future transactions with Customs.
- Some clients may now find it convenient to use a freight-forwarder who will already have the necessary authentication procedures in place.
