About the guide

Illegal international trade in exotic birds poses a significant risk to Australia’s bird keeping sector and biodiversity. This is because illegally imported birds can:

• introduce new diseases into captive and wild bird populations in Australia and
• become established in the wild as pest species (feral animals).
