Review of the National Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos

Discussion Paper
Natural Resource Management Ministerial Council Working Group, August 2004

About the discussion paper

The national Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos (the Code) outlines an achievable minimum standard of humane conduct in regard to the shooting of kangaroos. Compliance with the Code is a requirement under Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 approved Wildlife Trade Management Plans for the commercial use (and export) of kangaroos. The Code was last endorsed by Federal, State and Territory Ministers in 1990.

A copy of the current Code of Practice can be obtained at http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/trade-use/wild-harvest/kangaroo/practice.html

The Natural Resource Management Ministerial Council (NRMMC) has set up a Working Group to review the Code. The Chair of the Working Group is an officer of the Western Australian Department of Conservation and Land Management. The NRMMC Working Group has prepared a discussion paper.
