Harvesting of native plants

The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, which is administered by the Department of the Environment and Heritage is the legislative basis for conservation-oriented controls on the export and import of wildlife and wildlife products. The Act controls the export of most Australian native animals and plants and also fulfils Australia's legislative requirements as a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES).
