Applications to amend the list to include animals

The department manages applications to amend the live import list to include animals. The process outlined below is relevant to applications to import specimens not currently permitted for import into Australia.

Application form and guidelines

Use the following application form and guidelines to apply to amend the live import list. This application form should be used for all applications except for biological control agents. Please note that there are separate guidelines and terms of reference that can be used when applying for Australian native specimens.

Biological control agents

Use this form for biological control agents.

Applications to import live plant specimens

Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service

Applications to import live plant specimens currently not permitted for import into Australia can be made to the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS)  on their new plant product form . For more information on importing new plant specimens, contact AQIS: horticulture/grains@aqis.gov.au

National environment law does not regulate the import of viruses, green algae or single celled organisms such as bacteria or protists. For information on importing these taxa, please contact AQIS by email animalimp@aqis.gov.au or visit the AQIS website.
