About the management plan
This Kangaroo Conservation and Management Plan for South Australia details management strategies for the commercially harvested kangaroo species in South Australia. It fulfils legislative requirements of the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and the South Australian National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 (NPW Act) that allow for these species to be harvested.
This plan is designed to integrate with high-level South Australian Government policies including South Australia's Strategic Plan 2007 (Government of South Australia 2007). It also integrates with, and will help meet the goals of, other biodiversity and natural resource planning documents in South Australia, including No Species Loss: A nature conservation strategy for South Australia 2007-2017 (Department for Environment and Heritage 2007) and the State Natural Resources Management Plan 2006 (Government of South Australia 2006).
This plan is restricted to the three commercially harvested kangaroo species in South Australia:
- Red Kangaroo (Macropus rufus)
- Western Grey Kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus melanops)
- Euro (or Hill Kangaroo) (Macropus robustus).
