The townscape of Paddington is undoubtedly unique owing to the steep topography of the area coupled with the irregular street layout that affords dramatic views to the harbour and within the terraced streets.
The major components are the Victorian terraces which display a high degree of coherence. | Description: |
| An inner urban area east of the centre of Sydney which was largely developed during the last quarter of the nineteenth century and which grew from the village of workers building Victoria Barracks from 1841-47. The buildings are predominantly Victorian style terrace dwellings with shops erected on small narrow allotments having rear lane access. A notable landscape feature is the tropical forest in the grounds of Scottish Hospital. Many streetscapes predominate. |

| About 130ha, comprising the area of Paddington and Woollahra bounded by Boundary Street, Neild Avenue, the southern boundary of the Weigall Sports Ground, Alma Street, the southern boundary of the White City tennis courts, Glenmore Road, Hampden Street, the south western and south eastern boundaries of Trumper Park, the alignment of the south eastern boundary of that park, Thorne Street, the rear of the properties on the eastern and southern side of Jersey Road, Oxford Street, Centennial Square, Moore Park Road, Flinders Street and South Dowling Street. |
