Nominator's Statement of Significance
This complex consisting of an office tower, low rise building, plaza and lower level shopping concourse was designed by Cameron, Chisholm and Nicol, architects, and its significance has been recognised by the awards it has received: 1977 Alcoa Award; 1978 ACI Energy Conservation Award; 1978 RAIA Design Award; 1981 RAIA Bronze Award. The WA Design Award jury made the following comments: '...the basic design is innovative and displays both structural and technological sophistication. The tower and its associated concourse exhibit clarity of thought, consistent detailing and finishes of a high standard'.

The complex consists of four major elements: the office tower; the low rise building; the terrace level plaza; and a shopping concourse on a lower level. This shopping level will eventually form part of the cross city pedestrian route planned by the Perth City Council. The 33 level tower is set 45deg off St George's Terrace to gain height advantage from the Perth City Council. Each facade is stepped so window panels have north and south orientation only while solid panels face east and west. The roof of the lift motor room is designed as a helipad. At street level a transparent acrylic covered anodised aluminium space frame lines the tower with the low level buildings. The lightweight natural anodised aluminium cladding and solar glass windows are efficiently designed to cope with high wind, rain, thermal loads and seismic activity.
