Statement of Significance
The Cardwell Post Office was built during the early years of one of the oldest European settlements in North Queensland and is a remarkably rare survivor of that period. It is of great value in demonstrating the building techniques adopted during early settlement of the region and the methods subsequently adopted to cope with the demands of a tropical climate.
