Species Profile and Threats Database

SPRAT Profile

For information to assist in referral, environmental assessment and compliance issues, refer to the Listing Advice and/or Conservation Advice and Recovery Plan. The Listing and/or Conservation Advice define the national ecological community and may include Key Diagnostic Characteristics, Condition Thresholds, Priority Research and Conservation Actions and additional considerations. In addition, for recovery planning, mitigation and conservation information, refer to the Recovery Plan (where available) or the Conservation Advice.

For ecological communities listed from 2013 onwards, there is no separate listing advice. Instead, the advice from the Threatened Species Scientific Committee regarding the listing status of the ecological community and recommendation regarding a recovery plan are contained within the Conservation Advice.

EPBC Act Listing Status Listed as Critically Endangered (Date effective 05-May-2016)
Approved Conservation Advice Threatened Species Scientific Committee (2016). Approved Conservation Advice (including listing advice) for the Warkworth Sands Woodland of the Hunter Valley ecological community. Canberra: Department of the Environment. Available from: http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/threatened/communities/pubs/143-conservation-advice-05052016.pdf. In effect under the EPBC Act from 05-May-2016.
Listing Advice Listing assessment information may be available in the Approved Conservation Advice
Recovery Plan Decision Recovery Plan not required, the main threats to the ecological community and actions required to address them are understood. A number of existing strategies, plans and guides are relevant to the management and/or recovery of the ecological community, or its component species. Recovery of the ecological community is likely to be long-term, due to the range of threats to be addressed and their cumulative impacts. National listing and protection will underpin recovery efforts.

In addition, the recent approval of the Warkworth Continuation Project requires Rio Tinto Coal Australia Pty Limited to prepare an Integrated Management Plan (IMP) for Warkworth Sands Woodland, in consultation with Wambo and Bulga Mines (both of these mines own and manage significant areas of the ecological community). This existing guidance and required IMP, together with national listing protection and the priority research and conservation actions identified in the Conservation Advice, if resourced and implemented over the longer term, are a good prescription for recovery of the ecological community (3/05/2016).
Adopted/Made Recovery Plans There is no adopted or made Recovery Plan for this ecological community
Adopted/Made Threat Abatement Plans No Threat Abatement Plan has been identified as being relevant for this ecological community

Distribution Map Community Distribution Map

This map has been compiled from datasets with a range of scales and quality. Species or ecological community distributions included in this map are only indicative and not meant for local assessment. Planning or investment decisions at a local scale should seek some form of ground-truthing to confirm the existence of the species or ecological community at locations of interest. Such assessments should refer to the text of the Listing Advice, which is the legal entity protected under the EPBC Act.
