Baker & McKenzie has more than 15 years experience advising on carbon market transactions and drafting contracts and documentation for emission reduction projects. We have, over 15 years, advised the federal government on the development of its climate change laws and policies drafted, including stress testing the CFI legislation, providing us with unique insights into the operation of the law. We were involved in the first forestry transactions under the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme and advised on, and negotiated, many of the earliest reforestation and waste projects in anticipation of the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI). We regularly advise on legal requirements for participation in the CFI and on the establishment and operation of accounts in the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units, including on complex matters associated with transitional projects and financial services licensing. We have also delivered a number of workshops on project development under the CFI around Australia to Indigenous stakeholders and other landholders for the Department and for industry groups. We have provided advice to Aboriginal Land Councils on carbon property rights and CFI project structuring and we have prepared and negotiated a number of landowner agreements and agreements for the sale of Australian Carbon Credit Units. We confirm that many of these services have been provided in the past 12 months.
