Services and experience

Services provided:

Rural Solutions SA has a suite of highly qualified consultants, some with over 20 years experience, delivering carbon market consultancies throughout South Australia.

For example, in 2013, Rural Solutions SA conducted work for the Australian Government Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) providing three case studies looking at the feasibility of environmental carbon plantings in different regions of South Australia (low, medium and high rainfall). These case studies compared set up costs, implications of offset plantings, the amount of carbon that could be sequestered and the respective financial and environmental gain in each of the three regions.

We also provide CFI advice and identify opportunities for Indigenous South Australians. In May 2013 we finalised advice to the Department of Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) in a report "The Carbon Farming Initiative: Identifying Opportunities for Aboriginal South Australians". This report outlined activities identified as being potentially suitable for broad scale application on SA Aboriginal lands and also identified key issues associated with Aboriginal participation in the CFI.

Rural Solutions SA provides engagement services, workshops and training to Indigenous groups. Services include assistance to Aboriginal corporations to develop strategic plans, business plans and feasibility plans, particularly in the primary industries and natural resources management sector.

Most recently, Rural Solutions SA was engaged to assist the River Murray and Mallee Aboriginal Corporation (RMMAC), who recently gained a Native Title determination, to develop their strategic plan.

Rural Solutions SA experience extends to assisting Aboriginal communities to manage natural resources. Examples include Camel handling workshops in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara lands and developing social indicators and objectives for Aboriginal cultural and traditional fishing practices with the Point Pearce community of Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. Our consultants developed tailored approaches to support and address the aspirations and needs of Aboriginal people.
