About the assessment report
In September 2007, the Australian Fisheries Management Authority provided a submission for further assessment of the North West Slope Trawl Fishery and the Western Deepwater Trawl Fishery (collectively known as the Western Trawl Fisheries) under Parts 13 and 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The submission, comprised of the Draft Export Reassessment Report - Western Trawl Fisheries and both the North West Slope Trawl Fishery and Western Deepwater Trawl Fishery 2006 Data Summaries, reports against the Australian Government Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries and provides updates on the implementation of recommendations made in the original assessment undertaken by the then Department of Environment and Heritage (now the Department of the Environment and Water Resources) in November 2004.
The 2007 Department of the Environment and Water Resources assessment report considers the submission and associated documents and provides an assessment against the wildlife trade and protected species provisions of the EPBC Act.
