Environmental assessment under the EPBC Act

In July 2007, the Queensland (QLD) Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries provided a submission for further assessment of the QLD Blue Swimmer Crab Fishery under Parts 13 and 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The submission, which comprised of the 2005, 2006 and 2007 QLD Annual Status Reports for the fishery, reported against the Australian Government Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries - 2nd Edition and provides updates on the implementation of recommendations made in the original assessment undertaken by the then Department of the Environment and Heritage in October 2004.
The 2007 Department of the Environment and Water Resources' assessment report considers the submission and associated documents and provides an assessment against the wildlife trade and protected species provisions of the EPBC Act.
