About the report

The Victorian Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has submitted a document for assessment under Parts 13 and 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The draft document Assessment of the Victorian Giant Crab Fishery against Commonwealth Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries: a submission to Environment Australia (the Submission) was received by the Department of the Environment and Heritage1 (DEH) in June 2003 after a period of discussion between DPI and DEH, during which a preliminary draft was refined. The Submission was released for a thirty-day public comment period that expired on 18 July 2003. One public comment submission was received and DPI provided a response to the issues raised. No changes were made to the Submission as a result of public comment.

The Submission reports on the Victorian Giant Crab (VGC) Fishery against the Australian Government Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries. The DEH assessment considers the submission and associated documents, public comment and DPI's response to the comments.
