About the report
This report examines non-fisheries marine resource use activities in the East Marine Region (EMR). It focuses on the socio-economic values of the Region and the importance of these activities to the adjacent coastal areas and to the nation as a whole.
A number of important industries and uses have been examined in this report including:
- Ports and Shipping
- Offshore Oil and Gas
- Offshore Minerals
- Ocean Waste Disposal
- Marine Based Tourism
- Defence and Customs Activities
- Submarine Cables
- Emerging Industries
Where possible, the report has estimated the value of each use within the context of the Region and the nation. Gaps and uncertainties with that valuation have been identified.
In addition to an executive summary, the report has dedicated a chapter to each industry or use, including a general description and an analysis of the significance, economic benefits, environmental impacts and the future uses.
