Marine Protected Areas

Amendment to the Boundaries of Ningaloo Marine Park
(Commonwealth Waters)

Ningaloo Marine Park (Commonwealth Waters) was declared under the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1975 on 7 May 1987. Since then, the boundaries have been extended twice, most recently on 6 April 2004 to include two areas that were formerly the subject of petroleum exploration permits - WA 24-P Parts 2 and 3 (see map below). These areas are now subject to the same management arrangements as the remainder of the Park. These management arrangements are outlined in the Ningaloo Marine Park (Commonwealth Waters) Management Plan.
