The symposium/workshop gave all interested researchers the vehicle to present information already gathered to date and to gain insights to the directions and efforts of others interested in this dynamic tropical region. Contributions sought aims to review the current state of knowledge of the region, including geology and geomorphology, climate and oceanography, biogeography, marine and terrestrial flora and fauna, prehistory, history and archaeology, traditional fishing, fishery resources, and conservation and management issues. The abstracts are from the workshop.
