Part 1 – Murray Commonwealth Marine Reserve

All of that area within the Southern Ocean, excluding any coastal waters* in relation to the State of South Australia, contained within and bounded as follows**:

  1. commencing at the point of latitude 36 degrees 31 minutes 57 seconds south, longitude 136 degrees 48 minutes 6 seconds east;
  2. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 36 degrees 40 minutes 12 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 10 minutes 12 seconds east;
  3. then south along the meridian of longitude 137 degrees 10 minutes 12 seconds east, to its intersection with the parallel of latitude 36 degrees 54 minutes 20 seconds south;
  4. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 37 degrees 5 minutes 54 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 39 minutes 54 seconds east;
  5. then north-easterly along the geodesic to the intersection of the meridian of longitude 138 degrees 57 minutes 20 seconds east, with the outer limit of the coastal waters* of South Australia;
  6. then generally south-easterly along the outer limit of the coastal waters* of South Australia to its intersection with the meridian of longitude 139 degrees 9 minutes 52 seconds east;
  7. then south-westerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 37 degrees 12 minutes 18 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 56 minutes 6 seconds east;
  8. then south-westerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 37 degrees 32 minutes 20 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 40 minutes east;
  9. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 37 degrees 49 minutes 10 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 47 minutes 38 seconds east;
  10. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 38 degrees south, longitude 137 degrees 52 minutes 30 seconds east;
  11. then west along the parallel of latitude 38 degrees south, to its intersection with the meridian of longitude 137 degrees 10 minutes 12 seconds east;
  12. then south along the meridian of longitude 137 degrees 10 minutes 12 seconds east, to its intersection with the outer limit of the exclusive economic zone***;
  13. then generally north-westerly and westerly along the outer limit of the exclusive economic zone to its intersection with the meridian of longitude 136 degrees 42 minutes east;
  14. then north along the meridian of longitude 136 degrees 42 minutes east, to its intersection with the parallel of latitude 36 degrees 44 minutes south; and
  15. then north-easterly along the geodesic to the point of commencement.

Part 2 – Sanctuary Area Zone (IUCN Category Ia - Strict Nature Reserve) 

All of that area within the Southern Ocean contained within and bounded as follows**:

  1. commencing at the point of latitude 37 degrees 49 minutes 10 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 47 minutes 38 seconds east;
  2. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 38 degrees south, longitude 137 degrees 52 minutes 30 seconds east;
  3. then west along the parallel of latitude 38 degrees south, to its intersection with the meridian of longitude 137 degrees 10 minutes 12 seconds east;
  4. then south along the meridian of longitude 137 degrees 10 minutes 12 seconds east, to its intersection with the outer limit of the exclusive economic zone***;
  5. then generally north-westerly and westerly along the outer limit of the exclusive economic zone to its intersection with the meridian of longitude 136 degrees 42 minutes east;
  6. then north along the meridian of longitude 136 degrees 42 minutes east, to its intersection with the parallel of latitude 37 degrees 24 minutes 10 seconds south; and
  7. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of commencement.

Part 3 – Special Purpose Area Zone (IUCN Category VI – Managed Resource Protected Area)

All of that area within the Southern Ocean contained within and bounded as follows**:

  1. commencing at the point of latitude 36 degrees 44 minutes south, longitude 136 degrees 42 minutes east;
  2. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 36 degrees 54 minutes 20 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 10 minutes 12 seconds east;
  3. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 37 degrees 5 minutes 54 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 39 minutes 54 seconds east;
  4. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 37 degrees 12 minutes 18 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 56 minutes 6 seconds east;
  5. then south-westerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 37 degrees 32 minutes 20 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 40 minutes east;
  6. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 37 degrees 49 minutes 10 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 47 minutes 38 seconds east;
  7. then north-westerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 37 degrees 24 minutes 10 seconds south, longitude 136 degrees 42 minutes east; and
  8. then north along the meridian of longitude 136 degrees 42 minutes east, to the point of commencement.

Part 4 - Multiple Use Area Zone (IUCN Category VI - Managed Resource Protected Area) 

All of that area within the Southern Ocean, excluding any coastal waters* in relation to the State of South Australia, contained within and bounded as follows**:

(a)

  1. commencing at the point of latitude 36 degrees 31 minutes 57 seconds south, longitude 136 degrees 48 minutes 6 seconds east;
  2. then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 36 degrees 40 minutes 12 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 10 minutes 12 seconds east;
  3. then south along the meridian of longitude 137 degrees 10 minutes 12 seconds east, to its intersection with the parallel of latitude 36 degrees 54 minutes 20 seconds south;
  4. then north-westerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 36 degrees 44 minutes south, longitude 136 degrees 42 minutes east; and
  5. then north-easterly along the geodesic to the point of commencement.

(b)

  1. commencing at the point of latitude 37 degrees 5 minutes 54 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 39 minutes 54 seconds east;
  2. then north-easterly along the geodesic to the intersection of the meridian of longitude 138 degrees 57 minutes 20 seconds east, with the outer limit of the coastal waters* of South Australia;
  3. then generally south-easterly along the outer limit of the coastal waters* of South Australia to its intersection with the meridian of longitude 139 degrees 9 minutes 52 seconds east;
  4. then south-westerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 37 degrees 12 minutes 18 seconds south, longitude 137 degrees 56 minutes 6 seconds east; and
  5. then north-westerly along the geodesic to the point of commencement.

*The coastal waters are defined in relation to each State and the Northern Territory by the Coastal Waters (State Powers) Act 1980 and Coastal Waters (Northern Territory Powers) Act 1980.
**All geographic coordinates are expressed in terms of the Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994 (GDA94) as described in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette GN35 of 6 September 1995.
*** The exclusive economic zone in relation to Australia and its external territories has been declared under the Seas and Submerged Lands Act 1973 in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (Proclamation dated 26 July 1994 published in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette S290 of 29 July 1994).
