About the Document

The Marine Education Society of Australasia, Inc, (MESA) prepared this annotated Information Register on resources relating to the effects of ship operations on the marine environment for the Environment Protection Group, Environment Australia. These resources form part of the national education and outreach strategy of the Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council (ANZECC) Maritime Accident and Pollution Strategy which was released in June 1996. The key subjects for the Register were identified in the Discussion Paper Maritime Accidents and Pollution: Impacts on the Marine Environment from Shipping Operations, published for public comment by ANZECC in 1995. MESA approached numerous maritime industry and user groups throughout Australia and reviewed hundreds of publications.
