About the report
The current project replaced existing listening station moorings at North Neptune Island in South Australia with a system that allows retrieval without the need for divers to enter the water, thus providing a cost effective long-term coverage of the site. At the same time, listening stations were retrieved from all other sites and data downloaded for the period to April 2003. This completes the current dataset, providing vital summer-time information on shark patterns.
CSIRO Marine Research also had archival tags available for deployment on grey nurse sharks. This represented a unique opportunity to gain critical information on swimming depth (including the potential use of deep-water) and long-distance movements of grey nurse sharks on the east coast.
