About the application
The department received an application for approval for a permit to kill, injure, take, trade, keep or move a listed marine species in a Commonwealth Area under Part 13, section 258 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The application is to collect species (landed dead) of the families Syngnathidae or Solenostomidae (seahorses, pipefish, sea dragons and ghost pipefish) and any species of the families Hydrophiidae or Latcaudidae (sea snakes) in all waters where fisheries are managed by the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries from the coast out to the limits of the managed area under the Offshore Constitutional Settlement.
It is proposed that should the application be approved it would be in force for a period of up to five years.
In accordance with the provisions of section 257(3) of the Act, comments were invited on this proposal. The comment period closed on 31 May 2007.
