Cadastral standards

Hi folks,

This may or may not be the right forum for this but, by the look of the
subscribers, it can't hurt :-).

When are we going to see some cadastral data standards ? Is no-one else
interested in this ? Mind you, I guess monopolies don't see a need for
standards - they only become an issue when you have multiple data
custodians willing to work together to improve data exchange processes
for mutual benefit, and for the benefit of the users of the data.

Why don't we have the ability to have distributed systems for
maintaining cadastral data ? I envision a day when surveyors, local
government can all play a part in the capture process, each adding value
to the data, with no redundant data capture. As far as I can see, the
only obstacles to this are the unresolved issues of politics and
standards.

Am I dreaming or not ?
