Visit by Doug Nebert of FGDC

Most of you will be aware that there has been a meeting of the Dublin
Core group on international metadata developments, here in Canberra this
week.  One of the participants in that meeting is Doug Nebert, who is
the clearinghouse coordinator in the US NSDI.

ANZLIC has engaged Doug to participate in a series of meetings while he
is in Australia.  He will be in Melbourne tomorrow (7 March), in
Canberra on Monday 10 March and in Sydney on Tuesday.

We have organised a small seminar on Monday afternoon, at the Botanic
Gardens in Canberra.  There are still a few seats available for
interested people.  Details are as follows:


Time:  1:30 to 4:30
Venue:  Theatrette at the Botanic Gardens, Canberra
Cost:  $30 including afternoon tea
Topic:  Implementing a clearinghouse for a national spatial data
infrastructure; challenges, both technical and administrative, to be
addressed, drawing upon the US experience.

We will explore participants' ideas of just what a clearinghouse is;
what, in practical terms, will have to be done to implement it; what
challenges and issues will have to be addressed by ANZLIC/CSDC/agencies
in making it work; what are the respective roles of each of the
participants in the ASDI.  ANZLIC will be preparing a report from the
seminar for input to the discussion on ASDI.
