Airwatch 
Join Airwatch students from around Australia, who are actively learning about air quality and the effects of air pollution on our environment.

Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) 
The AIMS brings together some of the world’s expertise and capacity in marine science. The 'ProjectNET' section of the AIMS web site is provided as part of an information set designed for school project activities. The subject pages are intended to complement existing course work as an aid for students undertaking marine science projects. Where appropriate, links for further reading and information are provided.

Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) 
AMCS is a national, non-profit organisation whose mission is to protect the health and vitality of Australia's coasts and seas. AMCS provides leadership on a wide range of marine issues throughout Australia including marine parks, fisheries, threatened species and land-based pollution.

Australian Wind Energy Association (AusWEA) 
AusWEA represents the Wind Energy industry in Australia, including turbine and parts manufacturers, project developers, investors, academics and researchers and many other people and organisations directly or indirectly involved in expanding wind power in Australia. This web site has sections on wind facts and figures, publications and a good list of related links, both Australian and international.

Birds Australia 
Birds Australia is dedicated to the conservation, study and enjoyment of Australia's native birds and their habitats. Their web site is not education-specific, but contains lots of information. Resources include photos, distribution maps and information about the ecology of many rare and threatened Australian birds, as well as links to many other bird related resources.

Birds in Backyards programme 
Create and monitor bird friendly gardens in your school and discover guidelines that schools might use for the development of bird habitats.

Bokashi Food Scrap Recycling System 
This recycling system uses bokashi (crushed and fermented grains/cereals inoculated with millions of beneficial microbes) to ferment food waste inside a sealed container. This means there's no rodents, no insects, no spoiling, and no odour. The end result is a pickled mass of food waste, which, when placed in a garden, break down into rich humus within a matter of days, releasing nutrients, microbes and structure to the soil.

Bureau of Meteorology 
The Bureau of Meteorology homepage provides the Australian community with access to weather forecasts, severe weather warnings, observations, climate records, rainfall and temperature maps and other climate related information, including drought-related topics and how climate affects us. The 'Learn About Meteorology' section is particularly useful for educators and students.

This software has been developed to show how you can reduce the impact of your car on the environment and save on fuel costs at the same time.

Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) 
CAT is concerned with the search for globally sustainable, whole and ecologically sound technologies and ways of life, demonstrating ways in which people, nature and technology can live together successfully. The Information and Publications sections are useful for people wanting information and advice on all aspects of sustainable living.

CHAPPY Energy Audit Software 
CHAPPY is a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) model that enables both primary and secondary students to calculate the environmental impact of their family. The environmental impacts CHAPPY reports on include the consumption of resource energy and fresh water, emissions of greenhouse gases and other airborne pollutants.

Chicken Project 
This web site has everything you need to know about using chooks as a learning tool in schools!

CitiPower 
CitiPower has an education section on its web site which contains downloadable versions of two books on issues related to global warming: Primary Greenhouse Activities and Secondary Greenhouse Activities. The books contain material that is designed to be readily useable by the primary school classroom teacher and, where appropriate, the students.

Clean Up Australia 
Every year hundreds of thousands of Australians help clean up their local environment on Clean Up Australia Day. It's fun, easy and everyone can take part. Individuals and local groups can either organise a Clean Up site or volunteer to join an existing site. Clean Up Australia Day is held on the first Sunday of March each year.

Climate Change Chronicles 
Climate Change Chronicles provides the latest news and information (updated daily) about climate change science, global warming and alternative energy. This web site aims to bring climate change and alternative energy news stories and information into the spotlight and in doing so the creators hope to raise the level of awareness about this area of science. In addition to providing information, Climate Change Chronicles allows web site users to interact with other users and discuss the important issues by posting story comments or using the forum.

Climate change science: questions answered 
A practical and informative guide to climate change.

Climateprediction.net 
Climateprediction.net is the largest experiment to try and produce a forecast of the climate in the 21st century. Climateprediction.net has put together science, maths and geography teaching materials based on the project. For some of these, you need to be running the climateprediction.net model on your school computers, for others you don't. The materials focus very much on the concepts of modelling and prediction, with most resources aimed at secondary students.

Commission on Education & Communication- World Conservation Union (IUCN) 
The Commission on Education and Communication is the IUCN's knowledge network about how to involve people in learning and change towards more sustainable development, through the window of biodiversity and natural resources management. It provides guidance and tools on how to use communication and education as a policy or management tool.

Community Biodiversity Network 
A community-based network of organisations that aim to increase understanding of biodiversity and provide access to information and resources.

CRC for Greenhouse Accounting 
The Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Accounting's research supports the development of Australian and global greenhouse policy and sustainable land-management practices and agricultural systems. This web site has heaps of useful information on the enhanced greenhouse effect (including its impacts and how we can reduce it), the carbon cycle, accounting for carbon emissions, and a number of online tools including models and tree carbon indicators.

CRC for Greenhouse Gas Technologies 
The Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC) researches the logistic, technical, financial and environmental issues of storing industrial carbon dioxide emissions in deep geological formations (geosequestration). The CRC also researches the capture and separation of carbon dioxide from industrial systems, including coal fired power plants.

The Department provides information on climate change and greenhouse matters. The Department's education site provides a range of information about climate change, energy conservation, greenhouse effects and Australian Government school grant programs.

Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts
The Department provides information regarding Australia's unique biodiversity, related programs, legislation, policy and conservation strategies.

Department of Primary Industries (DPI)

Edible Schoolyard 
The mission of the Edible Schoolyard at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School (Berkeley, California) is to create and sustain an organic garden and landscape that is wholly integrated into the school's curriculum and lunch program. It involves the students in all aspects of farming the garden - along with preparing, serving and eating the food - as a means of awakening their senses and encouraging awareness and appreciation of the transformative values of nourishment, community, and stewardship of the land.

Energy Efficiency Calculator 
Use Origin Energy's efficiency calculator to help you work out where you use the most energy at home, with useful energy saving tips suggesting great ways to save energy.

Energy Hog 
Energy Hog Busters is suitable for students between the ages of 8 and 13! The energy hog campaign teaches youth how to take charge of energy waste in their own home and encourage their families to save energy.

Energy Smart 
By using the "Kids" menu on the Energy Smart web site, children can: find out how to help the environment every day by living Energy Smart; take a look at the EnergySmart Zone game, where they can build their own energy efficient home; or check out the activities section, where they can learn all about different types of energy and perform fun experiments to test their knowledge.

Energy Toolbox 
This toolbox provides Victorian Government agencies information, resources and links that assist energy managers to understand and implement the Government Sustainable Energy Targets. The web site includes information on government sustainable energy targets as well as how to: develop an energy management systems; run staff awareness campaigns; calculate and report energy use; and analyse the cost effectiveness and feasibility of energy and emission reduction projects. It also has sections on best practice design and technology, sustainable public lighting and schools information (including Save Energy @ School curriculum resources).

Feeling the Heat 
This guide provides an introduction to climate change and shows how the international community is responding. Starting with a scientific perspective, it explains the causes and possible impacts of climate change; it also explores ways of coping and dealing with the problem. The final sections provide an insight into the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol.

Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) 
FoEI is a federation of autonomous environmental organisations from all over the world. The publications section of this web site has useful reports on environmental issues listed by category, a media centre, information on campaigns and links to Friends of the Earth groups all over the world.

Frog Census 
The presence of frogs is a strong indicator of the health of rivers and creeks. The Melbourne Water Frog Census, a partnership with the Amphibian Research Centre and community volunteers, occurs in autumn and spring each year. Volunteers visit local rivers, creeks and wetlands and record frog calls. The Amphibian Research Centre then analyses the results and uses them to map Melbourne's frog populations.

This is the definitive guide to the frogs of Australia, providing descriptions, distributions, images, breeding calls and other information for every frog in Australia.

Greening Australia 
Greening Australia works in partnership with landholders, the community, government and business to tackle environmental degradation in a practical, apolitical, scientific way.

Greenhouse Gas Calculator 
The Australian Greenhouse Calculator is a programme that will calculate your yearly greenhouse gas emissions based on the information you provide. The calculator will also compare your greenhouse emissions with that of a 'typical' house and a 'green' house.

Greenhouse Gases

Green Vehicle Guide 
The Green Vehicle Guide provides ratings on the environmental performance of new vehicles sold in Australia. Home Energy Project 
Origin's Home Energy Project is a comprehensive resource for Years 7-9 that brings the junior science curriculum to life, and can be modified for use at Year 10 and upper primary school levels. Packed with practical activities about home energy efficiency, the resource brings students and their families together to create and try their own energy saving ideas. It has strong links to the South Australian and Victorian curriculum. HEP fits the science and maths curriculum but also includes society and environment (South Australia), Humanities (Victoria) and English.

The mission of KidsFACE is to provide information on environmental issues to children, to encourage and facilitate youth's involvement with effective environmental action and to recognise those efforts which result in the improvement of nature.

Kids Gardening 
Kids gardening explores gardening resources for family, teachers and beginner or experienced gardeners. This virtual garden community includes a 'how-to' project library, web resources and classroom stories and activities. Mitre 10 Junior Landcare Grants Program 
Mitre 10 Junior Landcare Grants Program is a grant scheme open to schools and other youth organisations around Australia. It provides funds to enable young people to participate in a wide range of Landcare projects at their local level.

Moreland Energy Foundation 
With the slogan "using energy is fine, wasting it is a crime" MEFL piloted some exciting school energy projects in 2004 and developed"Environmental Education Strategies for the City of Moreland". Information on past projects and national and international resources for teachers can be located on this site.

Munchy the Worm 
"MUNCHY", created by the Waste Management Department of the Shire of Yarra Ranges, has the important task of teaching the young (grades 4 and under) to be responsible, environmentally conscious citizens of tomorrow. The web site has information on worm farms and composting and gives trouble shooting tips to help people keep their systems running effectively. Research Institute for Sustainable Energy

Save Energy @ School 
Save Energy @ School curriculum resources are designed to support primary and secondary teachers in developing teaching programmes about energy and the environment. All materials have been linked to the Victorian Curriculum Standards Frameworks (CSF).

Save H2O The Way to Go 
Save H2O The Way to Go is a collection of interactive on-line water activities, including primary and secondary water use surveys, an on-line quiz, the Water Detective, water salination experiments and the Water Waste Not Want Not project, an interactive project exploring the issues surrounding water use and conservation in Australia.

Smogbusters runs community sustainable transport program throughout Victoria.

Solar School 
The Solar School has been designed to help students of high school age to explore aspects of climate change. Its aim is to enable students to see their role in the process of climate change in the context of the development of Global Sustainability, both technologically and socially. The Solar School explores climate change via a number of "virtual classrooms", each of which concentrates on particular aspects: Greenhouse Effect, Global Warming, Renewable Energy, Photovoltaic (PV) Electricity Generation, and Virtual PV Power Station. The library has a lot of links and the Projects section has a wealth of ideas on projects for students to complete.

Stop Climate Chaos 
Stop Climate Chaos' vision is a world in which climate change is capped at a level that will allow all of humanity to prosper, by means that promote global, social, environmental and economic justice.

Sustainability Victoria 
Sustainability Victoria is a Victorian government agency that works across all industry sectors, as well as with schools, State and local governments, community groups and individuals to promote and encourage environmental sustainability. Includes information on waste reduction and recycling, energy efficiency and renewable energy. Lots of useful information, especially in the Waste Wise in Schools section. The publications section has a range of documents which are sorted by subject area or title.

Sustainable Design Guidelines 
The Sustainable Design Guidelines are a series of practical notes for single dwellings, apartments, townhouses, commercial buildings and warehouse conversions. They include examples of building design and layouts that optimise natural daylight, cross ventilation and sunlight all year round, and provide guidance on the selection of energy efficient building materials and appliances.

Sustainable Gardening Australia 
Sustainable Gardening Australia is a not for profit association committed to achieving real, continually improving and easily understood environmental solutions for gardeners. Sustainable Gardening Australia provides advice on gardening practices and products.

Sustainables Household Challenge 
Meet the Sustainable family. They may not be your usual superheroes, but their actions are helping to save the planet all the same. In and around the home, they do the little things that count - like feeding vegetable peel to the worms or taking four minute power showers. It doesn't sound like much, but it's what makes them super.

Sustainable Living Competition 
The Sustainable Living Competition is an exciting national competition which rewards secondary students for environmental projects undertaken in the classroom or individually. The competition encourages students to conduct projects that either research issues of sustainability, design sustainable solutions to environmental problems or take action on an issue they are passionate about. The Sustainable Living Challenge is free to enter and runs every year, with entries closing on the last Friday of October.

Threatened Species Network (TSN) 
The Threatened Species Network is a joint program of WWF Australia with the Australian Government's Natural Heritage Trust. TSN aims to foster good long-term conservation practices through facilitating, educating, advising, building understanding and skills, and providing links to governments and conservation organisations that contribute funds and expertise.

Travel Smart 
Travel Smart is a voluntary program that aims to inform and motivate people for changing their travelling behaviour through personal choice. It does not involve any form of regulations, fees or taxes, but is directed at compelling changes in travel behaviour.

Tree of Life 
The Tree of Life is a network of Web pages containing information about the diversity of life on Earth. Each page is dedicated to one group of organisms or a species, and pages are linked to one another in the form of the evolutionary tree.

Turtle Tracking Online 
This WWF leatherback turtle tracking project will set up the platform for the compilation and dissemination of travel route information about the trans-oceanic movements of leatherback turtles, for the subsequent design of measures to reduce by-catch mortality in Atlantic fisheries. Members of the public can track the tagged turtles' progress across the Atlantic on the Internet and also find out information about the animals.

Water Footprint 
People use lots of water for drinking, cooking and washing, but even more for producing things such as food, paper, cotton clothes, etc. The water footprint of an individual, business or nation is defined as the total volume of freshwater that is used to produce the goods and services consumed by the individual, business or nation.

Water Science for Schools 
U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Water Science for Schools web site! As part of the web site schools are offered information on many aspects of water, along with pictures, data, maps, and an interactive centre where you can give opinions and test water knowledge.

Weeds in Australia 
This site can assist schools and community identify which plants can be a problem in their local area and provide advice on how to manage weeds.

Wildscape

The IUCN is probably most famous for their bi-annual Red List of Threatened Species, available in an online database.

WWF Australia, the conservation organisation formerly known as World Wildlife Fund and World Wide Fund for Nature, is helping to protect and conserve our most biologically outstanding land, freshwater and marine habitats. From on-ground field projects through to long-term, large-scale programs, and policy formulation through to public and political campaigns.
