Sustainability Education

Industry Working Group: National Environmental Education Council

Business engagement with environmental issues is vital to the development of innovative solutions to current challenges and to building a sustainable future for all Australians. The Industry Working Group (IWG) of the National Environmental Education Council (NEEC) has been actively involved in considering the main impediments to the adoption of sustainable practices by industry and business and how best to engage industry in change towards sustainability.

The Working Group has overseen a number of research projects looking at industry attitudes to the environment. More recently it has been involved in the development of research projects to identify the degree to which sustainability is taught by business schools in Australia (see the ARIES project: Education for and about Sustainability within Australian Business Schools). The need, suggested by the research to date, for practical and targeted information for industry groups, will shape the development of future initiatives by the Working Group.
