Pumped hydro provides 99 per cent of the world’s grid-connected electricity storage.
The Australian Government is making energy storage infrastructure a critical priority so that wind and solar can be better integrated into the energy market and conventional power can be used more efficiently.
By increasing our pumped hydro capacity, we will help make renewables more reliable and help to stabilise our future electricity supply.
Pumped hydro involves pumping water from the bottom of a hill to the top, so it is ready for release when increased electricity generation is needed.
