About the application

The Department of the Environment and Water Resources has received an application for a permit to interfere with (close approach) a cetacean under Part 13, section 237 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

The application is for close approach (50 m) to whale and dolphin species in waters around Norfolk Island. The applicant wishes to take photographs and collect sloughed skin samples for scientific research.

A permit is sought for the period commencing from the date of approval to 28 June 2012.

In accordance with the provisions of section 237(3b) of the EPBC Act, you are invited to comment on this proposal.
