About the application
The Department of the Environment and Water Resources has received an application for approval for a permit to take an action affecting a member of a listed species or ecological community in a Commonwealth Area under Part 13, section 200 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The application is for investigation of the ecology and health status of the seabird community of Christmas Island. Collecting data on
- key parameters of foraging, reproduction and population dynamics to elucidate evolution of adaptive behavior and functional relationships between seabird behavior and ecological condition.
- key parameters of endocrinology and immunology.
Study will also provide crucial data for effective conservation of Christmas Island seabirds some which are endangered.
It is proposed that should the application be approved it would be in force for the period commencing from the date of approval to October 2009.
In accordance with the provisions of section 200(3.b) of the Act, you are invited to comment on this proposal.
